Learning about Segments

A critical element of non-profit marketing communication is the ability to segment supporters into distinct audiences, which enables more personalized messaging and better results. Until now, segmentation in Engaging Networks has relied on the use of two separate tools: the ‘Query Builder’ and ‘Profiles’.

With the launch of Segments, we now have a unified and more powerful tool for segmenting supporter data. No more going back-and-forth between Profiles and the Query Builder to figure out how to build an audience using complex logic.

How can I use Segments?

Right now, Segments is available to use to build audiences for your Marketing Tools messages. In future releases, it will also be available for use in Marketing Automation, reporting, and more.

You’ll find Segments under the “Data & Reports” top navigation item. Once there, you can have a look at the pre-defined and ready-to-use segments that cover common use-cases (and can be modified to meet your specific needs) or you can start by creating your own segment from the My Segments tab.

When you create your own segment, you will have the ability to export a sample of the data as a CSV as a way to validate that the correct supporters are being pulled in with your query.

Users will need to have the ‘Export Data’ permission selected to have the ability to view and use the Export CSV button.
