SSL certificates (page subdomains)
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates enable encrypted communication over HTTPS between your Engaging Networks pages and your supporters, ensuring that sensitive information like payment details are transmitted securely. SSL certificates also allow you to use a custom subdomain with Engaging Networks hosted pages (e.g. https://secure.mycharity.org).
Procuring an SSL certificate
Engaging Networks obtains SSL certificates on behalf of clients. This is typically done as part of onboarding and the following information is required:
Subdomain/s you plan to use with Engaging Networks pages (e.g. secure.mycharity.org, donate.mycharity.org, act.mycharity.org)
Organizational contact name and email
Engaging Networks Client ID
DNS instructions
DNS updates should be handled by someone with administrative access to your domain’s DNS settings. Typically that is an IT team, system administrator, or web hosting manager.
Log In to Your DNS Hosting Provider
Go to your domain’s DNS or “DNS Management” section.
Look for a page labeled something like DNS Settings, Zone Editor, or Advanced DNS.
Add a CNAME record using the following details
Notify Engaging Networks when the CNAME record is in place
Some additional validation by Engaging Networks may be required before the subdomain becomes functional
Allow DNS to propagate and validate
It can take up to 24 hours for DNS entries to update across the entire internet
Engaging Networks uses Cloudflare and its security tools like WAF, Bot Management, and traffic monitoring capabilities. This procedure will also set up your domain with our Cloudflare account.
Once the subdomains are functional, update URL settings in your Engaging Networks account
Go to Hello > Account Settings > Account Preferences and add the subdomain to Base URL, Donation Base URL and Allowed domains
Updated page URLs as needed in the Page Admin settings
Test your page URL using the new subdomains
Engaging Networks will manage renewals as needed
No further action is required by clients as long as the DNS records stay in place
Engaging Networks will regularly renew the SSL certificate
Other information
Clients cannot procure their own SSL certificates
Wildcard SSL certificates are not supported
Clients with domains hosted on Cloudflare may find that they receive errors such as ‘CNAME Cross-User Banned’ when setting a proxy on the CNAME record in Cloudflare. To resolve this, set the CNAME record to ‘DNS Only’.
Please note that Peer to Peer sites cannot use the same Base URL as pagebuilder pages and require a separate SSL domain to your main pages
